Fierce Marriage: What does selfless love look like.
Ian & Larissa.
I recall, 15 years ago, when my, at the time boyfriend, experienced a serious illness. He was admitted into the hospital. He was there for 28 days. I felt that he needed me. I visited him every single day that the medical staff would allow me too.
I had a choice. Once I saw how seriously ill he was… I could have walked away from the relationship and moved on. There was no question in my mind that I would stay.
He healed and didn’t suffer any ill side-effects. Today, we’ll celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary in February 2014. We met in the late Spring of 1998 just before he fell ill. We dated and grew closer over the next 9 months. We’ve had our ups and downs. God has always seen us through.
It is hard for some people to even wrap their heads around being selfless. It is hard for me to wrap my head around being selfish. Everyone who knows me states that I’m one of the most selfless people they know. They also tell me I’m one of the most patient people they know. Well, with the Holy Spirit, it’s just the way life is. I don’t even think about it. I just live it.
What about you?
Prayer: Dear Father God, I lift up everyone who struggles with selfishness. I pray that they’ll drop the masks and allow You to work in their lives helping them to be selfless. I thank You for all the answered prayers. I thank You for all the blessings you bestow on us. Help us to be a blessing to those around us. Help us to allow You to work in us. I pray that those who cross this path will be blessed. I thank You in advance for hearing and answering this prayer. In Jesus precious and holy name, amen.
