We all want to be a good neighbor, right?
Nowadays, most of us do not even know our neighbor.
Why do you think that is?
We all lead busy lives. That means that there’s no much time to know anyone except our immediate family.
Did you know that even a family member in your own home can be considered your neighbor?
In a home, kids have separate rooms from each other. As well, as the parents’ room is separate from the kids. Many people even have a guest room for people who come from far away who needs a bed to sleep in while they visit.
Before the computer and technology age came along neighborhoods would have backyard bbqs or block parties. People knew each other.
Just because we don’t know our neighbor doesn’t mean they’re not our neighbor.
Yahweh’s word tells us this about our neighbors:
“You must not tell lies about your neighbor. “You must not want to take your neighbor’s house. You must not want anything that belongs to your neighbor.” Exodus 20:16-17
Those verses are actually part of the 10 commandments. Almost everyone will say they keep the ten commandments. So, by saying this, they’re saying they’ve never told a lie. A lie of any kind. Even a little white lie is still a lie.
Even I sometimes skew the truth a little just because I’m trying to protect someone from being hurt. It’s not right! This tells me I need to work that out and stop it. There’s no need to lie.
Here’s a quote I like:
If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.
How are you doing with your neighbor? Comment your thoughts. Curious minds want to know.
